Visual Testing

AMG-X04 | ₦1,150,000
Campus
D-line Port Harcourt
Duration
7 days (Full-time)

Visual Testing (VT) is the most fundamental and widely used non-destructive testing (NDT) method for detecting surface defects such as cracks, corrosion, misalignment, and welding discontinuities. This course provides a thorough understanding of the principles, techniques, and applications of visual inspection in industries such as oil & gas, shipbuilding, aerospace, automotive, and manufacturing.

Participants will learn how to perform direct and indirect visual inspections using various tools, including magnifiers, mirrors, borescopes, and advanced imaging devices. The course emphasizes proper lighting conditions, inspection angles, and defect characterization to ensure accurate assessments. Practical training will reinforce theoretical concepts, enabling trainees to identify and evaluate defects effectively. The course also covers compliance with international NDT standards such as ASNT, ISO, and ASTM, along with best practices for reporting and documentation.

What you'll learn

Upon successful completion, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the principles and applications of visual testing in defect detection.
  • Identify surface defects such as cracks, corrosion, misalignment, and weld discontinuities.
  • Perform both direct and indirect visual inspections using appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Evaluate the impact of lighting, viewing angles, and environmental conditions on inspection results.
  • Interpret and classify visual indications in accordance with industry standards.
  • Ensure compliance with international NDT standards such as ASNT, ISO, and ASTM.
  • Follow proper documentation and reporting procedures for visual inspection results.
