Magnetic Particle Testing

AMG-X02 | ₦690,000
Campus
D-line Port Harcourt
Duration
6 days (Full-time)

Magnetic Particle Testing (MPT) is a non-destructive testing (NDT) method used to detect surface and near-surface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials. This course provides a detailed understanding of the principles of magnetism, test procedures, equipment operation, and interpretation of results. MPT is widely used in industries such as oil & gas, shipbuilding, aerospace, automotive, and manufacturing for the detection of cracks, laps, seams, and other defects in welded structures, castings, and forgings.

Participants will learn how to apply direct and indirect magnetization techniques, select appropriate testing mediums (wet or dry), and properly evaluate indications. The course combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on practical training to ensure competency in conducting reliable inspections. Emphasis is also placed on safety practices and compliance with international standards such as ASNT, ISO, and ASTM.

What you'll learn

Upon successful completion, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the fundamental principles of magnetism and how they apply to magnetic particle testing.
  • Operate MPT equipment and apply magnetization techniques for effective inspections.
  • Detect surface and near-surface defects such as cracks, seams, and laps in ferromagnetic materials.
  • Select and use appropriate testing media (dry or wet particles) for different applications.
  • Interpret and evaluate test indications based on industry standards.
  • Ensure compliance with international NDT standards, including ASNT, ISO, and ASTM.
  • Follow safety protocols to minimize risks associated with magnetic particle testing.

Who is this course for?

  • NDT professionals seeking to expand their expertise in magnetic particle testing.
  • Engineers and inspectors in industries such as oil & gas, aerospace, automotive, and manufacturing.
  • Quality control and maintenance personnel responsible for ensuring structural integrity.
  • Welders and fabrication specialists involved in defect detection and inspection.
  • Students and trainees pursuing a career in non-destructive testing (NDT).
